Pro Evolution Soccer 2

Pro Evolution Soccer 2
Manufacturer: Konami (Limited availability)

Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is the latest edition of the greatest, most addictive footy sim series. Sticking to the principle that playability comes first, detail and frills second, the series all but guarantees season upon season of pulsating gameplay.

Fans of Pro Evolution will naturally have a few gripes about this update. There has been some notable tampering with the terminology: “injury time”, for example, is now “loss time”. More annoyingly, the club teams have been renamed beyond recognition. Manchester United has been rechristened “Aragon”, while the mighty Real Madrid becomes “Navarra”.

This shouldn’t detract too much from what is a lovingly rendered simulation of the beautiful game. Opponents and computer-controlled team mates have been blessed with more intelligence this time around and players’ skill sets more accurately reflect their individual stats.

This version is harder to master than its predecessor but it is still accessible to newcomers thanks to far-reaching multi levels and changeable speed settings. Once familiar with the gameplay, gamers of all abilities will undoubtedly be hooked by the intensity and realism of the action.

With a fantastic range of competitions in which to test their skills, gamers can play as one of 32 club teams in the Master League or compete in a plethora of international cups and leagues. And, at last, recognisable commentators are at the mic: Peter Brackley sits alongside Trevor Brooking although it soon becomes apparent that the pair’s repertoires are even more limited than in real life.

Frustratingly, Konami has raised the bar for soccer sims while tampering with some key details and features. But despite the few minor flaws in this update, Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is another sure step on the road to football gaming perfection. –David Thwaites

Football at its best
This football game is the best game ever made, the graphics and just the way the players play, this game will never get easy , if u r a footie mad person u need 2 buy this game, £20.00 is a bargain for a game of this quality.

Is Pro Evolution Soccer 2 the best footy game ever?
Pro Evolution Soccer 2 may be the greatest football game out. It is packed with stats and the gaphics are fantastic. There is another good thing too. you can add your self and your mates to the game. Making look as you like and be as good as you like. Also, you change their boots, with a wide range from addidas to umbro.

The main good thing about the game is that the gameplay is incredible. It is a thousand times better than FIFA 2003, you can pass the ball slikly across the surface of the pitch and you have to play like a normal football team(e.g. you cannot run straight through the opponent’s deffence. you have to pass it around.)

The Master league is the best feature in the game becaus you have to choose from a wide range of teams around the world and start in the bottom division without any real players. Throughout the season you will earn points and will be able to buy other players(you can only do this when the transfer window is open). You can even buy yourself and play for your team and if you have good players the computer may offer to buy them.

In Pro Evolution there are many different varities of gameplay. Such as, league mode, Tornument mode (world cup etc.) and training mode.

In league mode you choose a country or club to be and play in a single league. This is good for early users so that they can compete in a easier and smaller version of the Master League.

There are many different tornuments to choose from. Such as, the World Cup, European Championships etc. You once again choose a tornument and then choose a COUNTRY that you want to be.

In Training mode you can either just practice your skills (free-kicks etc.) or you can have a go at the drills and earn points to see how you rank against the computer.

Finally, there are some bad things in PES2. For example, the commentry is rubbish and Konami (the makers of the game) could not get rights for some players so their names are wierd. This happens with all dutch players. For example, Berkamp is Orange001, Cafu is Facu, Roberto Carlos is Roberto Larcos, Ronaldinio is Nanderiniho. Another bad thing is that the kits are wrong.

I conclude my review by stating that Pro Evolution Soccer 2 is better than any other football game, but can still be improved so there could be a better football game in the future (maybe Pro Evolution Soccer 3). All in all it’s a great game well worth buying.
